We Know What's Riding on Your Technology
When your practice management system goes down, your front desk can’t see who’s coming next. When an image won’t load mid-procedure, your patient is waiting in the chair. We understand the technology—and the pressure it puts on your team when it fails. That’s why keeping your practice moving matters to us.

Practice Management Software Your Team Depends On
From the first appointment to the last payment, your practice runs on systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Open Dental. We manage the technology behind your software and work with your vendors to keep your team moving and your day on track.

Dental Images Ready When You Need Them
When a patient is in the chair, you need images without delays. From digital X-rays to CBCT scans, we manage the computers, connections, and software integration that keep your imaging systems working together—and coordinate with your imaging vendors when issues arise.

Keep Your Front Desk Moving
Answering calls, confirming appointments, collecting payments—your front desk has enough to juggle. We help keep your phones, patient communication tools, and payment connections reliable, so your team can focus on patients instead of troubleshooting.

A Reliable Network Behind Your Entire Practice
Every workstation, imaging system, and front-desk tool depends on a solid foundation. Our local engineers take care of your network, computers, and connectivity, with onsite support when you need it—keeping your technology simple, secure, stable, and supported.

How We Helped a Dental Clinic Solve Their Biggest IT Problem

The Challenge
A husband-and-wife dental practice was purchasing a new office in downtown Milwaukee — but the existing technology was outdated, the imaging systems needed an upgrade from 2D to 3D, and the entire practice management platform had to be migrated to the cloud before day one.

What We Did
Conducted a full technology assessment before the practice took ownership. Replaced all servers and workstations, coordinated with every vendor to move systems to cloud-based practice management, and completed a full cable management overhaul — leaving the space clean, organized, and ready for growth.

The result
The practice opened with a modern, cloud-connected IT environment built around their workflow — stable imaging, reliable day-to-day performance, and no inherited tech problems. Technology that works for them, not against them.

Questions Dental Offices Ask Us Most
Does my dental practice actually have to comply with HIPAA?
Yes. Any dental practice that transmits health information electronically for insurance claims, eligibility checks, or referrals is considered a covered entity under HIPAA, without exception. Advantage Technologies provides the IT support dental practices need to meet these requirements, from HIPAA-compliant backups and endpoint protection to secure practice management software support.
What technology safeguards are required for HIPAA compliance?
HIPAA does not provide one simple technology shopping list. The appropriate safeguards depend on the organization, the electronic protected health information it handles, and the risks identified through its HIPAA risk-analysis process. From an IT perspective, important safeguards can include access controls, secure authentication, audit and system monitoring, endpoint protection, managed firewalls, security patching, encrypted transmission of sensitive information, backup and disaster recovery, secure remote access, and processes for detecting and responding to security incidents. Advantage Technologies helps address the technology and cybersecurity side of HIPAA readiness. When we function as a Business Associate, we also execute a Business Associate Agreement covering our responsibilities related to PHI. It is important to make the distinction that using Advantage Technologies does not, by itself, make an organization HIPAA compliant. The covered entity still has responsibilities involving policies, employee training, risk analysis, documentation, incident response, vendor management, and other administrative requirements. We help make sure the technology side is being approached appropriately and can coordinate with a qualified HIPAA consultant when broader compliance guidance is needed.
What's the biggest HIPAA compliance mistake dental practices make?
The most common gap cited by regulators is failing to complete a proper Security Risk Assessment, and small and solo dental practices have faced fines ranging from $50,000 to $70,000+ for this alone. Advantage Technologies helps close this gap with ongoing risk monitoring and HIPAA IT compliance support built specifically for dental practices.
Do you offer security awareness training for employees?
Yes. Advantage Technologies offers cybersecurity awareness training for teams of 10 or more users. The training covers practical topics such as identifying phishing emails, safe web browsing, password security, multifactor authentication, social engineering, and other common ways attackers target employees. One of the most valuable parts of the program is simulated phishing. Employees periodically receive realistic test emails, allowing the organization to see who recognizes suspicious messages and where additional training may be helpful. That combination is important because it does more than ask employees to complete a course. It helps reinforce the training with real-world practice and gives management visibility into how effectively the team is applying what they have learned. We use this type of training internally as well.
Can you manage our cloud environment on an ongoing basis after a cloud migration?
Yes. Moving to the cloud changes where some of your applications and data live, but it does not eliminate the need for IT management. If you are moving to a third-party cloud platform, that provider will typically manage the application and its hosting environment. Advantage Technologies continues to manage the technology around it, including your computers, network, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, user access, and the other systems your team relies on every day. We can also coordinate directly with the cloud vendor during and after the migration so your team does not have to referee between your software company and your IT company. Our goal is to make sure the entire environment works together before, during, and after the move. For dental practices in particular, we also look carefully at practice-management software, imaging, scanners, CAD/CAM, acquisition computers, and any other systems that may still have local requirements after the primary software moves to the cloud.
Which cloud platforms does Advantage Technologies work with?
We take a platform-agnostic approach. Our goal is not to force a business into a particular cloud product. We first look at how your team works, which applications you depend on, what needs to integrate with them, and what you are trying to accomplish. We regularly support environments that use Microsoft 365 as well as third-party cloud business applications and cloud-based practice-management systems. When another vendor owns the actual cloud application, we can work alongside that vendor and manage the IT environment surrounding it. For dental and healthcare offices, compatibility is especially important. Imaging systems, CBCT, scanners, acquisition devices, and other specialized technology may still have local dependencies even when the practice-management system is cloud-based. We help identify those requirements before the migration so there are fewer surprises afterward.
How disruptive is it to switch IT providers?
Switching to Advantage Technologies is designed to be smooth, not disruptive. Our team handles the transition behind the scenes, migrating your systems, backups, and security protections with minimal impact on your day-to-day operations. Most dental practices experience little to no downtime during the switch, so your staff can stay focused on patients while we take care of the technology.
What happens if something goes down during patient hours?
Downtime during clinic hours puts your schedule, staff, and patients at risk, which is why Advantage Technologies provides proactive monitoring designed to catch problems before they interrupt care. If an issue does arise, our team responds quickly. Our average response time is 12 minutes.
Who do we call when something breaks?
Many practices rely on one staff member who’s “good with computers” but this is a risk if that person is out or leaves. With Advantage Technologies, you always know exactly who to call, backed by a dedicated technology consultant that knows your dental systems inside and out.
Why does my practice need dental-specific IT support instead of a general IT company?
Dental practices rely on specialized technology like imaging systems, practice management software, and sensor bridges that general IT providers often aren’t equipped to handle. Advantage Technologies focuses specifically on dental IT, so your systems, backups, and security are managed by a team that understands your practice.
